For over 50 years, I have been a student of the "emotional language" of music.
I am a passionate self-taught musician and an Emotion-First Music Educator. I spent decades navigating the gap between complex music theory and the simple joy of creating a feeling, and I founded Music Making Matters with a single mission: to help you stop looking at your hands and start listening to your heart and that of your listeners.
I believe that technique is just a tool, but emotion is the destination.
That is why I offer something completely different—a fresh, exciting journey that challenges you to change how you play. My philosophy is Emotion First, Solution Second. I want you to create music so powerful that your listener feels it before they even hear it, bypassing the logic of the brain to strike a chord directly with the spirit.
In my signature series, including The Storyteller’s Express, I dismantle the dry, academic approach to music education. Instead of just teaching you scales, modes, chords, and techniques, I hand you a palette of colors and teach you how to paint. We focus on the story you want to tell, and only then do we look at the technical solutions you need to tell it.
I write from my home in Barry, Wales, where I continue to explore the unseen connection between the musician, the instrument, and the listener.
